It's Yarn Along again. Time to see what knitters are knitting and reading all around the interwebs. It's a great way to find new knitting blogs and get people to find yours too!! Click here to read all of our old yarn along posts. We've been doing this a while and you can see our progress on our knitting for almost the past year!
Renny will be thrilled. I have pulled out the Mitered Cross blanket out of hibernation to finish weaving in ends and to fix the holes -yeah that's right- holes that have already appeared in this blanket. This is what happens when you put a blanket meant for the bedroom in the living room and your children use it for tents and picnics and cuddles. I'm sure that if I had actually finished this thing in a proper way and put it on our bed these holes may not have happened.
Of course the holes pissed me off, and the peanut butter sandwich stains. I was so mad that I put this thing in a place where I didn't have to look at it. Then all this unemployment nonsense happened and suddenly the challenges of holey stained knitting paled in comparison to the challenges of a sudden lack of income.
Fixing this blanket brought me some much needed satisfaction. The crazy cliffs of uncertainty are a little more tolerable if I can make myself feel like I can control one aspect of my life. Suddenly darning a small hole in a blanket feels like a major achievement and in some ways it is. I don't care about the shame of the holes anymore. It's time to actually do something and distract myself from the things I can't control.
The holes are fixed and now I'm doing an icord edge for the blanket and finally wash and block this thing. Perhaps it's enough to clear the house of bad juju. Just thinking about it has me feeling upbeat.
As for reading this week, I'm once again indulging in the high-end celebrity gossip rag known as Vanity Fair. I have to remember to resubscribe. I've been enjoying getting this in the mailbox every month.
Hows your knitting and reading this week?
